Babies may need their first eye exam by a pediatric optometrist or eye doctor at six months of age. After that, they should get their eyes checked every year. We here at SoCal Optometry in Riverside, Corona, and Eastville, CA, an “optometry near me” how you should prepare for your own eye exam.

What to Bring

If this is your first time getting an eye exam from an “optometrist near me”, you will need to fill out paperwork. You should make lists beforehand to make filling those forms out easier. This list may change if you are going to see our pediatric optometrist. You may need to bring:

  • Vision insurance or other insurance cards
  • Other forms of payment for co-pays or to pay the entire bill
  • List of medications and nutritional supplements you are currently taking
  • List of allergies
  • List of medical conditions you have
  • List of medical conditions your close relatives have
  • Sunglasses
  • Headache medicine.

Why Bring Sunglasses?

It may be necessary for an eye exam to dilate your pupils in order to see the backs of the eyes. This is a great way to check for conditions like cataracts. Sometimes, machines can be used that help to examine the back of your eye. Children may need their pupils dilated. This can cause a headache and makes light painful to bear. Wearing sunglasses may make the experience much more comfortable.

If You Are Prone to Migraines

The eye drops used to dilate the pupils may trigger a migraine. If you are prone to migraines, or already know that the drops will give you a migraine, arrange to have someone else drive you, or take a taxi.

  • We use Anderson Optometry for all of our family’s vision needs. Recently, we had to have our youngest fitted for new glasses and he made the experience fun for her and informative for us. We know Dr. Anderson will always take good care of our family’s eye care and that’s why we wouldn’t go to anywhere else.

  • Dr. Anderson and his staff are so patient and friendly. Dr. Anderson prescribed me glasses and I had the toughest time picking out frames. They didn’t rush, but instead made helpful suggestions and now I have an awesome pair of frames, not to mention the fact that I can see ten times better than before. You guys are the best!
