Eyeglasses

Eyeglasses Are an Affordable Vision Solution

At SoCal Optometry, your eyesight is our concern. We want everyone in the Riverside, CA, region to see as clearly as possible. If you start experiencing blurred vision or find yourself squinting, you may need corrective lenses. Eyeglasses are one type of corrective lenses. If your eyesight changes slowly, you may not notice the difference. It is essential to have an annual eye exam. However, if you notice any of the following symptoms, you should schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

.

Symptoms of Changing Vision

  • Blurry Vision
  • Squinting
  • Headaches
  • Trouble reading signs
  • Trouble using a computer

Corrective lenses will resolve most of these issues. Eyeglasses are a common form of corrective lenses and, in the long run, are cheaper than contact lenses. Reading glasses or "cheaters" available at drugstores may offer a solution for some people. However, in over the counter eyewear, both lenses are the same. Your eye strengths may require different prescriptions for each eye.

Types of Lenses

Eyeglass lenses come with several types of correction. Single-vision lenses help people who are either near-sighted or far-sighted. Multi-vision lenses contain more than one prescription separated by a line. Bifocal lenses have a section used for reading on the bottom, and an area for seeing distance on the top. Trifocal lenses contain three different prescriptions. Progressive multi-vision lenses provide a clear, smooth transition area without a distinct line. However, the transition area takes up space on the lens. Some wearers have a difficult adjustment period.

Transition lenses react to light. These light-responsive lenses eliminate the need for clip-on sunglasses or different prescriptive sunglasses. The lenses darken in response to ultraviolet light and return to clear when the wearer is inside. Transition lenses block UV rays and blue light. Most lens manufacturers offer protective coatings for eyeglass lenses.

Advantages of Wearing Eyeglasses

Wearing eyeglasses does not require the wearer to touch or place anything directly on his eye. Any age person can wear a pair of eyeglasses. Toddlers and young children wear eyeglasses attached to a head strap, so the glasses do not fall off. When your new eyeglasses arrive, one of our opticians will sit with you and adjust the frames for a comfortable fit. If your budget is tight for one year, you can have new lenses placed into your existing frames.
