Pediatric Eye Exams

Pediatric Eye Exams Provided by Our Riverside, CA Optometrist

Your little one's vision guides him or her through the world. His or her eyes are the portal to knowledge, allowing them to read and comprehend. With so much riding on your kid's eyes, it is important to seek out routine eye exams and eye care for your child. At SoCal Optometry, serving Riverside, CA, and the nearby region, we offer pediatric eye exams supplied by a family eye doctor to correct vision and eye problems and prevent issues in the future.

.

Visual Acuity Test

Part of your child's eye exam will consist of a visual acuity test. During this test, the optometrist will ask your child to read lines of letters while looking through two lenses. The doctor changes the lines of letters to increase the magnifying power until your child can read the line without a problem. This can help determine if your child requires corrective eyewear. If your child is not old enough to read lines of letters, our pediatric eye doctor can accommodate by asking your child to read lines of shapes.

Eye Problem Test

Besides checking your child's visual acuity, our practitioner will also perform testing on your child's eyes to ensure both of his or her eyes work together. This test helps the eye doctor detect if your child has a lazy eye.

Our pediatric eye doctor will also provide a color vision test. This test consists of asking your child to identify numbers in a series of pictures. Each picture has two colors. The number is in one of those colors. This allows our doctor to diagnose color blindness and determine which colors your child struggles to see.

During your child's vision exam, our optometrist in Riverside will perform an eye-tracking test.

Fitting for Corrective Eyewear

If your child requires corrective eyewear, a member of our team will fit your child for glasses and work with your little one to find a pair that he or she likes. This makes the experience better and helps to make sure your child is willing to wear the glasses.

We can fit your child for contacts as well, but we usually recommend waiting until after your child wears glasses for a designated time. We also help you decide as a parent if your child is responsible enough for contacts.

Correcting Eye Problems

If your child has any eye problems, our family eye doctor will provide the necessary treatment. For instance, our doctor may recommend your child wear an eye patch to correct a lazy eye. Therapy can help with eye-tracking problems.

At SoCal Optometry, we supply eye exams. We understand the connection between your child learning and seeing, and that is why we take pride in working with children.
